Located on Detroit’s riverfront in the historic Globe Building, with the Dequindre Cut trail running through its backyard, the Outdoor Adventure Center gives you a taste of Michigan’s great outdoors in the heart of the city.
Experience exciting outdoor adventures with hands-on activities, exhibits and simulators -- walk behind and touch a waterfall, step into a fishing boat and reel in a big fish, hit the trail on a mountain bike or snowmobile, and much more. At the OAC, you’ll learn about how the DNR manages state parks, forests, wildlife and fish as you climb the roots and explore the canopy of a massive bur oak tree, hop aboard a real airplane, and see what’s swimming in our aquarium.
Visit the Outdoor Adventure Center and discover all there is to explore in the spectacular outdoors, parks, public lands and waters that are yours to enjoy.
When Detroit Public Schools have a snow day, so does the Outdoor Adventure Center. If you have a field trip planned this winter, please check to see whether or not DPS has closed. If they have closed, so will the OAC. On non-school days, we would only close if it was indicated as necessary by the City of Detroit.
- Meet some birds of prey at the OAC
Join Michigan Avian Experience to meet some of Michigan’s live birds of prey – which may include a hawk, eagle, owl and/or falcon – on Sunday, April 29. Learn about these birds' remarkable survival adaptations and behaviors, and get the opportunity to feel feathers and explore skulls and other bird parts like feet and bones.
The presentation is at 2 p.m., followed by an informal meet-and-greet from 3 to 4. Included with the price of Outdoor Adventure Center admission.
Check out the Outdoor Adventure Center events calendar for more information about upcoming programs.
