Brigadier General Richard G. Elliott is the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Michigan Air National Guard. Serving in this capacity he is the Commander of Headquarters Michigan Air National Guard located in Lansing, Michigan. He is responsible for formulating, developing and coordinating policies, plans and programs affecting more than 2,700 members of the Michigan Air National Guard including two general-purpose fighter units, one airlift unit, and a Combat Readiness Training Center.
A command navigator with 3000 hours flight time, he maintains proficiency as a tactically qualified C - 130E navigator. His military career began in 1974 as an F - 4 Weapons System Officer. After approximately 7 years on active duty, he joined the Air National Guard and served with the Michigan and the New York Air National Guard. During this time he served as a traditional guardsmen.
In 1990 he transitioned to the C - 130 as a navigator. In 1996 he joined the full time workforce at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, serving as the 127th Airlift Group Commander. In September 2002, he was selected as the vice commander of the 127th Wing. On 1 May 2004, he assumed command of the 127th Wing. He was appointed to his current position in January 2006.
