OCTOBER 23, 2003 -- The State Aeronautics Commission recently filled the positions of Commission Chair and Vice Chairman at their regular September meeting. Sidney Adams and Dean Greenblatt were elected Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively, by their peers.
"We're lucky to have such talented and knowledgeable people serving on the State Aeronautics Commission," said Director of Multi-modal Transportation Services Bureau, Rob Abent. "These two gentlemen will provide the leadership necessary to oversee and lead the activities of the commission."
Adams, of Battle Creek, was appointed to the Aeronautics Commission by former Gov. Engler for a term expiring May 27, 2004. He holds a B.S. degree in Industrial Education from Alcorn State University. He spent three years as a surveyor and parachutist with the U.S. Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Following his military service, he began a 29-year career with the Veterans Administration. After his retirement, he established a computer and software consulting business.
He also served as an adjunct professor at Western Michigan University. He is very active in the Battle Creek community, holding seats on many boards and committees, including Battle Creek Unlimited, the Airport Advisory Committee, Battle Creek Community Foundation Leadership Committee, the NAACP, and the Urban League Board. He and his wife, Janine, are the parents of two daughters and one son.
Greenblatt, is a licensed attorney admitted to practice in Florida, Michigan and the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan, and concentrates his legal practice in the areas of civil litigation, criminal defense and aviation law.
As a member of the NTSB Bar Association and AOPA Legal Services Plan, Mr. Greenblatt represents airmen, aircraft owners, and operators in FAA enforcement and civil matters. Prior to being admitted to practice law, he was a professional pilot for U.S. Air Group and Kitty Hawk Incorporated of Dallas, Texas. While at Kitty Hawk, he acted as an FAA regulatory compliance liaison and was responsible for developing the training and operations manuals for the Convair program.
Greenblatt is a 3000-hour Airline Transport Pilot; he holds single, multi-engine, instrument, glider and seaplane ratings and enjoys volunteering for "Operation Good Cheer" and "Habitat for Humanity."
