Department of State Will Mail New Salvage Vehicle Title in Next Few Weeks

The Michigan Department of State is mailing a new orange Certificate of Title with a "Salvage Vehicle" designation to owners as soon as the proper documentation is received from State Farm.  The new title will include detailed instructions on how to re-certify the vehicle for road use.

Public Notice of Vehicles Involved

Attorney General Cox is making the vehicle information available so that during this transition time citizens can adequately research Michigan-titled used vehicles.

The search feature of this page allows you to determine whether a particular vehicle is one of those State Farm identified as a total loss.

A complete list of the vehicles is also available (Adobe PDF)

Agreement Background

State Farm discovered that it could not confirm proper titles were issued to vehicles it acquired from policyholders due to damage or theft, during the period 1997-2003.   State Farm approached the Attorneys General in 49 states, including Michigan, and voluntarily entered into an agreement to compensate owners of vehicles that will be titled as salvage.  Affected vehicle owners have been instructed on how to file a claim for compensation.  Only consumers who complete and return a claim form will be eligible for compensation.  Claim forms must be returned by November 18, 2005.
