Agency: Attorney General

December 12, 2007

DETROIT  - Attorney General Mike Cox renewed his call for Michigan homeowners to attend his free Avoid Foreclosure forum tomorrow, December 13, at Cobo Hall in Detroit. The forum is open to the public and runs between 12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and will offer homeowners tips on how to avoid foreclosure, opportunities to speak with lenders and independent loan counselors.

"The Metro Detroit area has one of the highest rates of foreclosures in the country," said Cox. "I encourage all homeowners who need help, are at risk, or just want to learn more about mortgages to attend my free forum tomorrow."

Cox has secured 21 of the largest lenders to be on hand to speak with borrowers. Homeowners whose lenders could not attend will also have an opportunity to speak with HUD-approved independent loan counselors. Cox is also providing educational seminars available throughout the day, running every forty-five minutes.

Homeowners whose lenders are on sight are encouraged to call their lender ahead of time to schedule a meeting time, though walk-ins are welcomed.

Homeowners interested in attending can visit the Attorney General's website at www.michigan.gov/agfor more information on the event, information on what to bring with them to the forum, a downloadable brochure with tools and tips to help save your home, and contact information for the lenders and service providers attending the Avoid Foreclosure forum.
