Labor Division

  • This Division provides legal advice and representation to more than 18 State entities that afford workforce opportunities, regulate the workforce, or provide workforce benefits in accordance with the Michigan Constitution, and more than 34 state and federal statutes and associated rules, and regulations.  The Division also defends the State's executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government in workers' disability compensation claims filed against them by their employees

Duties/Representing:

          Funds Administration Section

  • Workers Compensation Board of Funds, its trustees, and administration

    • Litigate workers' compensation claims in administrative and judicial hearings on behalf of the Second Injury Fund, Self-Insurers' Security Fund and Silicosis, Dust Disease and Logging Industry Compensation Fund.  Litigate bankruptcy claims in federal bankruptcy court on behalf of the Self-Insurers' Security Fund.

           State Claims Section

    • Defend workers' compensation cases filed by State employees

Licensing and Regulation Division

  • This Division provides legal advice and representation to several bureaus within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).  In its endeavor to represent LARA, the AG Licensing and Regulation division is responsible for providing legal counsel to the Bureau of Health Professions, Bureau of Commercial Services, and the Bureau of Construction Codes-Mobile Home licensing.  The Division provides representation in administrative hearings and all other court proceedings, drafts pleadings for initiating disciplinary actions against licensees for various rule and code violations, advisory assistance and counsel to over 50 boards and commissions, and provides general legal advice regarding licensing and regulatory matters.
