ATTORNEY GENERAL BILL SCHUETTE Middle School 6-8 Welcome
[Length: 1:38]
Hello, I'm Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, I want to talk to you about Michigan CSI - that's the Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative, kind of like the TV show, but for real.
My wife Cynthia and I are parents of teenagers, and we know that being connected - whether through your phones, computers, gaming devices, whatever, happens all the time. As Michigan's top law enforcement official, I need to talk with you about the safe and responsible use of your phones and the Internet.
First, you need to know about adults who lurk online, searching for people your age who they can target and eventually hurt. Now from time to time, you might feel people online than your friends offline, but realize that people who you first meet online may not be who they say they are.
You're also going to learn about the criminal penalties for sharing inappropriate material on your cell phone and on social networking sites. The mistakes you make now could jeopardize your future.
Our final message talks about cyberbullying. The best thing you can do from this day forward is to treat each other the way you'd like to be treated, both in the hallways and online. You know it takes only one person to lead by example and maybe today that person will be you.
So listen carefully, tune in for the next few minutes because what you learn could keep you from harm's way, and maybe help save your life, or the life of a friend.
