Emergency Legal Preparedness Exercise Overview

In the event of a natural or man-made disaster or emergency, a myriad of legal issues are certain to arise. Attorney General Schuette is committed to ensuring that our nation's public lawyers are fully prepared to respond to legal issues relating to an emergency. The Attorney General, along with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Michigan Department of Community Health, have designed an exercise to increase awareness and improve an agency's ability to respond to legal issues that may arise during an emergency. The exercise can be adapted for any state's unique statutory scheme and is intended to involve lawyers, health and hospital officials, and representatives of various governmental agencies. Attorney General Schuette encourages other legal departments to use the exercise to test their legal preparedness and to check the various legal resources available at this site.
