Michigan is Making it Easier to Buy Green Products and Services

Executive Directive 2007-22, Enhanced Energy Efficiency and Conservation by State Departments and Agencies

Governor Granholm issued this directive in November 2007.  Part of it was dedicated to State purchasing of Energy Efficiency and Energy Star Purchasing as well as a Material Management Plan. Purchasing Operations surveyed its current vendors in the areas of Janitorial Supplies, Office Supplies, and Tools and Hardware to identify those products that are considered "green" in these categories: Green Seal Approved, GreenSeal Certified, Bio-based, Bio-Renewable, Environmentally Friendly, Recycled, Energy Star Compliant, Federal Energy Management Program, EPA Program approved and EPEAT-Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool.

In an effort to make more products and services available to the State and MiDEAL members Purchasing Operations will be preparing bids over the next year. Vendors should continue to monitor the Buy Michigan First web site for these opportunities.
