Reduction in plant and animal diseases

other pathogens

forest pests i.e. jackpine budworm, gypsy moth
- Number of acres treated in response to forest disease i.e. oak wilt, beech

- Reduce the economic and environmental impacts resulting from EAB infestation
through aggressive containment activities at priority outlier locations.
- Protect Michigan’s ash resource of 700 million trees through aggressive
detection activities statewide and the ash resource of the entire continent
through intensive survey activities at the gateways of exit to neighboring
states and Canada.
- Increase bridge surveillance staffing from 30-40 to 100 or more hours per
week (June 1, 2005).
- Improve sample submission rate by 25% from an average of 60 per month to
75 per month, including specimens from all classes of cervid facility (September
30, 2005).

Improved trends in air and water quality
Measure
- Percent of Michigan's ambient air quality monitors meeting national air
quality health-based standards.
- Percent of Michigan's population living in areas meeting all national air
quality health-based standards.
- Percent of assessed waters attaining designated uses.
- Percent of population served by community water supplies receiving drinking
water meeting Michigan standards.
- Seventy-five percent of landowners signing up for CREP will reduce sediment
and fertilizer loading by 70% by December 2005 and improve surface water quality.
- One-hundred percent of 2,500 groundwater samples will be screened for nitrogen
and pesticide contaminants providing groundwater quality information to 1,800
Michigan citizens by December 2005.
- All groundwater quality risks will be eliminated at 350 sites by closing
wells at 100% of these locations by December 2005.
Faster issuance of environmental permits without compromising standards
Measure
- Percent of air permits to install acted on within DEQ goal timelines (which
are shorter than legally required timeframes).
- Percent of groundwater discharge permit applications decided within statutory
timeframes
- Percent of Inland Lakes and Streams and Wetland permit applications decided
within statutory timeframes
