SAP* Programmer Analysts develop programs and end-user applications and reports within the SAP platform (processes, solutions, and procedures).  SAP Programmer Analysts design and implement systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) using a client server solution that is internet-enabled package (SAP R/3).  They interface current applications with SAP solutions through data transfers and conversions.

JOB DUTIES   

SAP Programmer Analysts may:

Design Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) packages utilizing SAP

Develop applications

1.       using techniques like Classical Batch Input and LSMW to transfer data from legacy system into R/3 system

2.       using ABAP/4 reports and dialog programming

Design new interfaces for SAP (eg. SAP EDI interface for inbound and outbound processes)

Develop programs using SAP's Legacy System Migratiion Workbench Data Conversion Utility Facilities to convert data from external systems to the SAP enterprise system

Install, configure, test, and administer SAP application suite(s) such as R/3

Perform systems analysis, programming, and development on complex Enterprise-wide technology projects

Analyze and document system interface requirements between applications and the SAP systemPlan and develop SAP scripts using styles and layout sets

Develop information and data requirements to make changes and/or adaptations

Implement specific procedures and processes to enable transitions to SAP system

Configure infrastructure that allows master and transactional data to flow between the SAP systems and outside network

Demonstrate knowledge of domain experience, in finance, HR, production, materials, sales, maintenance and other enterprise related functions

Consult with clients to gather data and analyze their customer requirements to recommend specific SAP solution

Test SAP solutions

 Interface with end-users to resolve conversion and/or production issues

·         SAP Manufacturing -- This solution empowers both discrete and process manufacturers with role-based software that leverages real-time data -- enabling you to respond quickly to changes in demand, coordinate your value chain, comply with health and safety standards, and improve productivity.

·         SAP Service and Asset Management -- This solution helps companies maintain and service products and equipment. Such services can be delivered to customers or provided by an internal group to maintain in-house equipment and assets.

·         SAP NetWeaver -- This composition platform provides the technical infrastructure for Enterprise Services Architecture , allowing you to compose innovative business processes from existing resources and lower costs through standardization and consolidation.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

SAP Programmer Analysts may work alone or as a part of a team. Most Programmer Analysts work 8 hours a day, 5 days per week. Some SAP Programmer Analysts frequently work evenings and nights when computer time is most available. In retail, SAP Programmer Analysts may work evenings or night shifts to work on programs that require several hours of computer running time, such as inventory control programs for multiple plants or worldwide operations. SAP Programmer Analysts often work in rotation for weekend or after hour support and during off-shift processing to solve program problems.

EARNINGS AND ADVANCEMENT

Earnings of SAP Programmer Analysts vary according to the SAP Programmer Analysts' education and experience, the type and geographic location of the employer, and the duties and responsibilities of the job.  

Nationally, in mid 2009, the average starting salary of business graduates who have taken one SAP supported class was $40,776 and for those with four classes was $56,213. The average starting salary of SAP graduates was from $4,537 to $10,697 greater than Non-SAP graduates. 

In late 2009, SAP Programmer Analysts had average earnings of $83,871 per year.  Junior to senior level Programmer Analysts earned from $78,341 to $101,250 per year, depending on the level of experience.

Demand for SAP Programmer Analyst is expected to increase.  Employers in varied industries from engineering to retail will need in-house SAP expertise to maintain and execute programming codes. Job opportunities for college graduates with specialized training in SAP should be greater than those who have just basic computer programming experience.  To reduce costs and to streamline B2B, more and more companies are adopting SAP solutions for their companies' infrastructure. 

SAP Programmer Analysts will have the choice of working as contractual workers who may provide any number of services from one time to ongoing.  In addition, SAP Programmer Analysts may enjoy the options of flexible scheduling to telecommuting.  SAP Programmer Analysts with skills relating to Web services in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Electronic Proof of Delivery (E-POD) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) may be among the most desirable in today's market.  As many IT projects extend globally, employers are also seeking multilingual applicants and people with experience on projects that cut across borders.
