Contact:  Lani Gerst Elhenicky 517/241-2374

October 4, 2001

The Center for Educational Performance and Information (the Center) has appointed a 16-member advisory panel for the Michigan Education Information System (MEIS).  The MEIS is the Web-based portal that school districts use to submit data to the Center.  The Center is the state agency that collects, analyzes, and reports statistical data on Michigan’s public schools.

Appointed to the MEIS Advisory Panel are:  Rebecca Rocho, Michigan Association of Intermediate School District Superintendents; Robert Redmond, Branch Intermediate School District; Kristina Martin, Macomb Intermediate School District; Bruce Barrett, Wayne Regional Educational Service Agency; Jane Mohr, Traverse City Area Schools; Janice Brown, Kalamazoo Public Schools; Teresa Arpin, Grand Rapids Public Schools; Ken Forrest, Detroit Public Schools; John Moolenaar, Midland Academy of Advanced and Creative Studies; Eric Peterson, Michigan School Business Officials; Bill Bushaw, Michigan Department of Education; Elaine Madigan Mills, Michigan Department of Education, State Aid and School Services; Mike Boulus, Michigan Department of Treasury, Education Policy; John D. Williams, Michigan Department of Career Development; Robbie Jameson, Michigan Department of Management and Budget; and Andrew Henry, e-Michigan Office, Office of the Governor.  Madhu Anderson, Director of the Center for Educational Performance and Information, chairs the MEIS Advisory Panel.

“We are pleased to have representation from the Michigan Department of Education, intermediate school districts, local school districts, public school academies, and Michigan education groups,” Anderson said.  “As the Center works toward the final stages of development of the MEIS, the success of this system is highly dependent on interactive communication among all our stakeholders.  We look forward to working with the Advisory Panel on this very important endeavor.”

The Center also oversees the state's association with Standard & Poor's School Evaluation Services, a Web-based report providing comparative evaluations of the fiscal and scholastic performance of Michigan's public schools.
