Updated with Fall 2010 data.
The Center for Educational Performance and Information had to make an adjustment to the fall 2009 data in the updated Non-Resident tool. Because this was the first run of the Michigan Student Data System collection process, CEPI Analysts backed-out a business rule which previously included non-continuing students in the counts to remain consistent with earlier years' data.
This research tool will allow users to determine the number and location of students who resided within one local education agency district's boundaries, but attended school in another district or public school academy for the past six years. This dataset can be created only by examining the statewide individual student data that are maintained by CEPI via the Single Record Student Database.
CEPI would like to thank the district volunteers that helped define characteristics of the dataset and Macomb ISD for assistance in developing the user guide that is critical to using this new research tool.
Creating specialized public datasets is part of CEPI's mission to provide data and reports to local and state policymakers as well as the citizens of the state to allow them to make informed decisions. As CEPI is always trying to improve its products, users are encouraged to provide feedback to CEPI at cepi@michigan.gov.
