2000 Summary File 2: Detailed Population and Housing Summary

Access Summary File 2 tables and maps visit American FactFinder.

Summary File 2 (SF 2) contains 100% data from the 2000 Census, meaning that, the information is compiled from questions asked of all people and about every housing unit. This file contains 47 detailed tables focusing on age, sex, households, families, and occupied housing units for the total population. These tables are repeated for 249 detailed population groups based on the following criteria:

  • no tables are available for geographic areas having a population of less than 100
  • tables are repeated only for the race group, American Indian and Alaska Native tribes, and Hispanic or Latino groups having a population of 100 or more within the geographic area.

For a complete list of the 249 population groups, see Appendix H of the SF 2 Technical Documentation (PDF).

Raw Data to Download
Summary File 2 contains 100 percent data presented in 36 population tables (matrices) and 11 housing tables. Each table is iterated for 250 population groups. Data are available down to the tract level, however, the presentation of SF2 tables for any of the 250 population group is subject to a population threshold of 100 or more people (which means, if there are fewer that 100 people in a specific population group in a specific geographic area, their population and housing characteristics data are not available in SF2 for the area). These tables are presented in ASCII format to download: (without field name headers, as released by the Census Bureau). Downloadable Summary File 2 Field Name Header files.
