Auditing/Fraud Detection
  • Food Assistance Trafficking
    Food Assistance trafficking occurs when a store owner buys a client's food assistance credits at a discount so that the client can use the money to buy illicit items.  Department of Human Services' Office of the Inspector General (OIG)uses the Data Warehouse to analyze Food Assistance usage and identify vendors who are likely to be trafficking.   • Child Day Care
    The Department of Human Services provides day care assistance to clients to allow them to leave home for employment. Some of these clients have abused the system to pay for unnecessary or undelivered child care. The OIG uses the data warehouse to identify clients who are receiving day care assistance but have not earned any income. (

  • Surveillance and Utilization Review System
    The Department of Community Health uses the Data Warehouse for its Medicaid Surveillance and Utilization Review system in order to identify fraud. (

  • Medicaid Usage
    The Data Warehouse was used to provide the Department of Management and Budget with an analysis of trends in the use of Medicaid as a replacement for company provided health insurance in order to plan for future Medicaid costs.
  • SHADoW
    The Michigan State Housing Development Authority, in collaboration with the Departments of Human Services and Community Health and almost 500 private homeless services providers, has created the Statewide Homeless Assistance Data online Warehouse (SHADoW) as a single, consolidated, and de-identified source of information about services to the homeless.   • Auto find/fix - food stamps
    The automated find and fix project is used by the Department of Human Services to analysis almost half a million Food Assistance records nightly in order to identify cases that may contain errors so that they can be corrected.

  • Child Placing Network
    The Department of Human Services has geographically enabled the Data Warehouse. It has taken advance of that connection to create a facility that allows Child Protective Services workers to identify the closest, most appropriate, foster home for abused and neglected children who must be removed from their homes.   • Food stamps
    After the great Northeast Power Blackout the Department of Human Services used the Data Warehouse and its geographic capabilities to determine the clients who had lost power for multiple days in the hottest part of the year in order to replace their food assistance.
