Mission:
The mission of the Privacy and Business Intelligence Competency Center is to enable and encourage the appropriate and effective use of the data that the state has collected to further its ability to carry out its services to its citizens, while protecting the privacy of those citizens. It does this by

Supporting data sharing through technical assistance and maintaining a repository of data sharing agreements including what is shared, who is responsible and how it can be used.

Supporting the development of new data warehouse implementations by coordinating training and supplemental staffing.

Supporting business intelligence efforts by providing access to experts and tools.
·
Protecting the privacy of Michigan's citizens by coordinating and implementing best practices in data protection and usage.
Projects:
Statewide Homeless Assistance Data online Warehouse (SHADoW)
SHADoW is a Michigan State Housing Development Authority project that pulls data from the Departments of Human Services and Community Health along with more than 400 private homeless service agencies into a consolidated, de-identified, research database to track and identify the impacts of homelessness and efforts to combat it.
Court Improvement Project
This is a joint project of the State Court Administrators office and the Department of Human Services to provide enhanced data tools the departments' efforts to improve their support of children and families involved in foster care.
