MDOC to Get Hall of Fame Inductee

Future Hall of Famer Larry Avery

This fall Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility (IBC) ARUS Larry Avery will be inducted into the Anne Arundel County, Maryland Sports Hall of Fame for his athletic accomplishments.

Avery grew up in Baltimore.  Throughout his high school years he participated in football, where he was voted All Conference.  He was also the state champion in wrestling and remained undefeated through four seasons.

He attended college at Michigan State University, where he was Big Ten Wrestling Champion and U.S. Wrestling Federation National Champion in 1975.  Avery was chosen as the alternate for the 1976 Olympic Wrestling Team headed to Montreal, Canada.  In 1977, he was the Eastern AAU Wrestling Qualifier, which allowed him to participate in the annual East Block International Tournament in Tobliesi (a city in the former Soviet Union).  There he won a silver medal.  Congratulations!
