Camps
Minimum security corrections camps generally represent the end of a sentence for offenders, and they serve as a transition point for the offenders getting ready to return to society. The camp program started in 1948 primarily to provide a labor force for the Department of Natural Resources. Now, prisoners can go to school and work on projects for state, local and federal units of government and nonprofit agencies. Currently, there are 11 camps throughout the state of Michigan, and each camp is overseen by a nearby corrections institution.
