The Officer Recruit training curriculum is as follows:

PHASE 1

A.C.A. Accreditation - 1 hour

Administrative - 1 hour

Airborne Pathogens - 1 hour

Bloodborne Pathogens - 3 hours

Chemical Agents  - 4 hours

Computer Security - 1 hour

CPR - 8 hours

Criminal Justice - 3 hours

Criminal Thinking - 3 hours

Custody and Security  Basics - 8 hours

Directors Address - 1 hour

Discriminatory Harassment - 4 hours

Disturbance Control  - 5 hours

Drug Test Training - 2 hours

Ethics - 3 hours

Firearms Familiarization - 16 hours

Fire Safety  - 2 hours

First Aid - 4 hours

General Safety Awareness  - 1 hour

HBV Vaccinations - 2 hours

Hostage Awareness - 2 hours

Michigan Prison System - 2 hours

Michigan Prisoner Re-entry Initiative - 1 hour

Misconduct Report Writing - 12 hours

MRSA - 1 hour

OJT Preparation - 2hours

Orientation -16 hours

    [Includes: Administrative (1), Employee

    Handbook (3), Initial Admin Process (3),

    Intro to ORT (1), Personnel (3), Physical

    Testing (2), Uniforms (2), and Union (1)]

Perimeter Security - 6 hours

Personal Searches - 6 hours

Physical Training  - 19 hours

Policies and Procedures - 4 hours

Prisoner Discipline - 4 hours

Prisoner Grievances - 3 hours

Prisoner Management - Communication - 16 hours

Prisoner Management - Tactics - 24 hours

Prisoner Transportation Overview - 2 hours

Prohibited Sexual Conduct Involving Prisoners - 2 hours

Programs and Services - 3 hours

Restraints - 6 hours

Right to Know - 2 hours

Sanitation - 2 hours

Security Threat Groups - 2 hours

Segregation - 4 hours

Setups and Professional Conduct - 4 hours

Skill Development - 10 hours

Testing - 7 hours

Vision and Values - 2 hours

What to Expect - 2 hours

Workplace Safety - 1 hour

Total Phase 1 - 240 hours

 

PHASE 2

Critical Issues in Managing Women Prisoners - 32 hours (Attended by recruits assigned to facilities with female prisoners)

Firearms Training and Qualification - 16 hours

Fire Safety Practical - 1 hour

Gun Tower - 3 hours (Attended by recruits assigned to facilities with gun towers)

Perimeter Security Practical - 2 hours

OJT - 2 Months

 

PHASE 3

Administrative Time - 1 hour

Disturbance Control - 13 hours

Diversity - 16 hours

*FOA Overview  - 2 hours

Graduation Activities - 8 hours

Mentally Disordered Prisoners  - 4 hours

*Physical Training  - 8 hours

Public Relations - 2 hours

Security Classification - 2 hours

Simulated Incident Training - 6 hours

Situation Assessment - 2 hours

Stress Management - 4 hours

Substance Abuse - 4 hours

Suicide Prevention - 4 hours

Total Phase 3 - 80 hours
