Office of Personnel Services

The Office of Personnel Services includes Central Office and all field Human Resources Offices, classification, labor relations, technical services, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Work-Fit.

 

Human Resources Offices

 

The Human Resources Offices are responsible for providing personnel services to departmental employees.  These offices assist departmental managers in recruitment, selection and promotion of the highest quality employees.  They also assist employees in understanding employee benefits, Civil Service Rules and Regulations as well as departmental policies and procedures.

 

Classification Section

This area serves as the Department’s liaison to the Department of Civil Service regarding classification and selection issues.

Labor Relations Section

Labor relations represents the Department in collective bargaining at Civil Service grievance hearings, grievance arbitrations or Civil Service hearings. This section is also the director’s designee for responding to employee grievances. Responsibility for the administration of the drug and alcohol testing program is vested within Labor Relations.

 

Responsibility for the administration of the Drug and Alcohol Testing Program is vested within Personnel Services.  The Personnel Services Section also assists and evaluates the Work-Fit Program in Jackson for its effectiveness in controlling workers' compensation costs.

 

Technical Services Section

The Technical Services Section is responsible for assisting Human Resources Offices throughout the Department with technical matters such as payroll processing, timekeeping and workers’ compensation.  This office is also responsible for disability management which includes the Return to Work Program which minimizes the impact and cost of disability to the department and employees.

The section serves as the Department’s liaison with the State’s Disability Management Office.

 

Central Office Personnel

 

Central Office Personnel is responsible for providing personnel services to Central Office employees as well as to render assistance to other personnel offices throughout the department. The mission of Central Office Personnel is to assist departmental managers in the recruitment, selection and promotion of the highest quality staff. It helps individual employees understand employee benefits, Civil Service Rules and Regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
