New Director will be an Active Leader

DIRECTOR RICHARD MCKEONNew Corrections Director Richard M. McKeon has already rolled up his sleeves and gotten to work. He spent this week meeting with staff and reviewing operations within the Department. McKeon, appointed by Governor Rick Snyder to serve until a search for a permanent director is named, will lead the Department as this year's budget process begins. McKeon, who served on the Governor's Corrections Transition Team, retired in 2003 as the Director's chief of staff.

In announcing the appointment, Governor Snyder said, "Dick McKeon is an outstanding individual whose expertise and institutional knowledge will be a great asset as we look for efficiencies in the corrections system while providing safety and security to our citizens."

Director McKeon holds a master's degree in social work from Wayne State University and a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University. McKeon worked for the Department from 1981 until 2003, serving as an adviser and chief of staff to six corrections directors including Director Caruso at the beginning of her tenure.
