Child Abuse Prevention Month

Since 1985, April has been nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month. The Michigan Children's Trust Fund has used this special time each year to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child maltreatment in all its forms. To assist our CTF local councils, grantees and other like-minded community partners with their CAP Month efforts this webpage has been created. Included, is a comprehensive toolkit with messaging, statistical, programmatic and fundraising materials along with related website links. We also feature CTF's upcoming and past Prevention Awareness Day (PrAD) and its associated Legislative Education Day (LED) events. Please take a few moments (or more) to peruse these vital and practical CAP Month resources.

Please join the MI Children's Trust Fund (CTF) on Tuesday, April 16th at 11:00am for Prevention Awareness Day (PrAD) at the steps of the State Capitol in downtown Lansing (inside the Rotunda in inclement weather).

Event duration is approximately one hour and serves to recognize the issues of child maltreatment, the need for prevention programs and services, and to honor all the children and families of Michigan.
PrAD consists of a rally with notable speakers and entertainment, a procession, and a "planting" of a pinwheel garden.
The pinwheel is the nationally recognized symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention. It is also a symbol that expresses the belief that every child has the right to grow and flourish to his/her full potential within a nurturing environment.
This year's event theme is The Power of One. This statewide initiative under the leadership of the CTF asserts that the power of one person, one community, one dollar and one action can make a significant effect on the prevention of child abuse.

Please join the MI Children's Trust Fund (CTF) on Tuesday, April 16^th for the Legislative Education Day (LED) component of its Prevention Awareness Day event.

LED affords organizations and individuals an opportunity to come to Lansing and meet with their respective legislators to inform them about child abuse and neglect prevention needs as well as to speak about the important and significant prevention work being done to reduce (and ultimately end) child maltreatment within their respective legislative districts.

To prepare for visiting a legislator, CTF will be sponsoring a Webinar learning session on Tuesday, April 9^th at 10:00 AM.
