Agency: Natural Resources

March 3, 2010

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment announced today that it will be accepting requests for funding for the 2010 Community Pollution Prevention (P2) Grants Program.  A total of $250,000 in funding is available through the Michigan Community P2 Grant Program to provide matching grants to local and tribal governments, health departments, municipalities, and regional planning agencies to aid in the development of local climate action plans.

The goal of this round of the Community P2 Grant Program is to increase cooperation between citizens and local governments, and to foster the development of local models and approaches that will effectively address climate challenges in Michigan.  Requests for funding will be accepted through April 30.

Organizations receiving grants are required to match total project costs by at least 25 percent.  Grantee contributions may include dollars, in-kind goods and services, and/or third party contributions.

To assist interested participants, the DNRE has developed a Web site that has information on the program requirements.  For more information on the Climate Action Planning P2 Grants Program, and to download a funding application, go to http://tiny.cc/3bjDs ; or call the DRNE's Environmental Assistance Center at 1-800-662-9278.

The DNRE is committed to conserve, manage, protect, and promote accessible use and enjoyment of the state's environmental, natural resource, and related economic interests for current and future generations.
