The Department of Environmental Quality announced today that a request for proposals (RFP) to develop an online clearinghouse of green chemistry information in the state is available until February 12.
Green chemistry is the design of chemical processes and products that reduce or eliminate the generation of hazardous substances. The Green Chemistry Program was created by Governor Granholm's Executive Directive 2006-6, which also created an advisory panel, the Michigan Green Chemistry Roundtable, to help the DEQ implement the program.
This RFP targets the objective of collecting and disseminating green chemistry information. The Michigan Green Chemistry Program and the Michigan Green Chemistry Roundtable seek one applicant to develop and maintain a dynamic online tool to advance green chemistry activities in Michigan. The clearinghouse will highlight the green chemistry efforts in the state, and provide valuable information to those interested in learning, using, and advancing green chemistry.
The DEQ has a total of $350,000 available to organizations in the form of one grant to fund all phases of a three-year project. The grant funding does not require a match, but optional matching funds will strengthen a proposal. Organizations with green chemistry experience and established networks and partnerships in Michigan are encouraged to apply. An informational workshop will be held on January 13, at Constitution Hall in Lansing to provide guidance on preparing applications.
