Chippewa County
Premium Oil Bulk Plant- 611 West Ridge Street, Sault Ste. Marie.  This former bulk oil plant was abandoned and tax reverted to the State of Michigan in 2000.  The city received the property in 2002, however the RRD had placed the site on its 2004 CMI cleanup list, as the city did not have the resources to deal with the contamination present at the site. The city and the RRD agreed to allow for tax capture for the tank removal and soil remediation activities at the site, and cleanup actions took place in the fall of 2005.  The property has been cleared of all above ground tanks and is ready to be redeveloped.  It is located in a mixed commercial, light industrial part of the city, overlooking the St. Mary's River.  Contact Scott Schafer, DEQ-RRD project manager, at 906-293-5131 (ext. 4301), for more information about this site.
