Site Name: Fabco Products
11695 Pentecost Highway
Onsted, MI
Site ID#: 46000006

LOCATION: The Fabco Products site is located in a rural residential area of Lenawee County in Franklin Township. What was formerly the Fabco property is now split into three sections, each with a separate business located on the property. The southernmost property now has a residence that uses a drinking water well. Other residences in the area also use well water. The property consists of fill material and was once wetland connected to a lake system. Shallow groundwater likely connects directly to surface waters.

SITE HISTORY: Fabco began operating on the property in 1967 and ceased operations in 1979. The company's main business was the repair of materials handling equipment for an automotive manufaturer, but they also hauled waste and dunnage. At some time in the 1970's, hundreds of barrels were brought to the property and buried along with other solid waste. In 1999, some of these barrels were found while installing a natural gas feed at the property. The barrels that were disrupted contained liquid waste that was found to contain elevated levels of PNAs, including phenanthrene at levels up to 110,000 ppb. Test pits were installed at the site in October 1999 using state funds. Most of the test pits have uncovered drums still containing liquid wastes. Over $3.3 million has been spent by the state on the removal and disposal of the drums and associated waste.  The site is currently used for residential and commercial purposes.

CLEANUP ACTIONS: Currently, being undertaken by a private party.
