The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) was created in March 2003 by Director Steven Chester to advise the DEQ on its major programs and policies.  The EAC consists of 25 members representing a wide range of interests affected by DEQ activities including citizen organizations, the regulated community, local government, academia, and others.  Director Chester participates as a member of the EAC. The EAC was given an initial charge of advising the Department of how to improve the effectiveness of public involvement in DEQ activities. Other issues for consideration are generated by the EAC and through requests from the Department. In general, EAC meetings are not open to the public, however, information below includes meeting agendas, meeting summaries, the names of EAC members, and how to contact the EAC.

Recommendations on Public Involvement

In February 2004, the EAC issued recommendations on how to improve public involvement in DEQ activities.  Subsequently, the DEQ has undertaken activities to implement those recommendations.  The FY 05 Public Involvement Implementation Plan  describes activities the DEQ will undertake in fiscal year 2005 to implement those recommendations.  Included as an Appendix to the FY 05 Plan is a report on activities undertaken in FY 04.
