Agency: Environmental Quality


Who We Are
The Office of Internal Audit (OIA) reports to the Director of the department. The OIA is to assist management and divisions with audit needs and to provide recommendations that will increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls within the Department's programs and functions.

Office of Internal Audit Historical Summary
Upon the creation of the Department by Executive Order 1995-18, effective October 1, 1995, audit staff and funding were transferred from the Department of Natural Resources to the DEQ to facilitate the creation of the DEQ Office of Internal Audit.

Statutory Authority
1986 PA 272 - Internal Control Act.   The act requires each principal department to establish and maintain an Internal Accounting and Administrative Control System using generally accepted accounting principles and in accordance with directives issued by the Department of Management and Budget.  Section 486 of Act 272 details Internal Audit responsibilities.
