Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

May 7, 2009

The Department of Environmental Quality announced today that it will be accepting requests for funding for the 2009 Community Pollution Prevention (P2) Grants Program. A total of $200,000 in funding is available through the Michigan Community Pollution Prevention Grant Program to implement P2 practices at healthcare facilities across the state of Michigan. The DEQ will provide matching grants to hospitals, clinics, local health departments, municipalities, and regional planning agencies to fund P2 practices at healthcare facilities. The goal of the Community P2 Grant Program is to promote local P2 initiatives that foster partnerships and sustainability. Requests for funding will be accepted from May 1 through June 1.

Proposals are due no later than June 1, 2009. Organizations receiving grants are required to match total project costs by at least 25 percent. Grantee contributions may include dollars, in-kind goods and services, and/or third party contributions.

To assist interested participants, the DEQ has developed a Web site that has informational materials on the program requirements. For more information on the Healthcare Community P2 Grants Program and to download a funding application, go to the DEQ Web site at http://www.michigan.gov/documents/deq/deq-oppca-communityp2-2009-rfp_276104_7.pdf; or call the DEQ, Environmental Assistance Center, at 1 800-662-9278.
