DEQ Announces State Grants for Scrap Tire End-user Projects

Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

September 3, 2004

State grants totaling $88,130 will fund three scrap tire end-user projects from sites across the state, Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester announced today. The DEQ selected three applicants to receive grant awards with funding made available under the authority of Part 169, Scrap Tires, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended. Facilities creating new products from scrap tire material and Michigan certified end-users were eligible to apply for these funds.

”With the help of the Scrap Tire End-User Grants, the DEQ hopes to stimulate the scrap tire end-user market while building a foundation for responsible product stewardship,” Director Chester said. “The DEQ will continue to use the available funds provided by the program to promote increased end-use of scrap tire material and support the establishment of markets for these products.”

The grantees will have until September 15, 2004, to complete contract requirements.

The following is a listing of the approved grantees receiving scrap tire end-user contracts under the program:
