Additional state grants totaling $227,850 will help clean up approximately 217,000 more scrap tires from sites across the state, Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester announced today. In March, the DEQ had selected 35 applicants to receive grant awards totaling $2.5 million with funding made available under the authority of Part 169, Scrap Tires, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended.
“The DEQ is pleased to announce these additional cleanup grants,” said Director Chester. “These funds will be used to eliminate the fire and public health risks that are associated with scrap tires.”
The following is a listing of the approved grantees receiving amended scrap tire cleanup contracts under the program and the amount of additional funding:
