January 18, 2005

The Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester announced that Plastech Engineered Products, Inc. in Croswell has been designated as Michigan’s 107th Clean Corporate Citizen.

Plastech-Croswell is a supplier of plastic injection molded parts and components to the automotive industry, including Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, and Daimler-Chrysler Corporation. The 95,000 square foot manufacturing facility is located on the north side of Croswell in Sanilac County and employs 117 associates.

“We thank the Department of Environmental Quality for recognizing Plastech Croswell as Sanilac County’s first designated Clean Corporate Citizen,” said Judy Vandewarker, Environmental and Human Resources Manager. “We plan to maintain the C3 designation as we advance into the future through use of our disciplined, mentoring culture and continuous improvement efforts.”

Facility environmental goals and improvements include the reduction of solid wastes sent to landfill by more than 50 percent in 2003 and certification to ISO 14001, the international standard for environmental management. Creative newsletters, contests, and coloring pages are developed by the environmental staff and used by employees to carry the pollution prevention message throughout the plant and into the community.

“The Plastech Croswell facility is a prime example of how a business can develop positive environmental programs and waste reduction efforts,” said Director Chester. “I am pleased to recognize this facility for the strength of their environmental focus.”

With this latest designation at the Croswell facility, Plastech Engineered Products now has three Clean Corporate Citizens within the corporation. Their facility in Clarkston, Michigan received designation in February 2003, and the Port Huron facility was designated the 100th Clean Corporate Citizen in March 2004.
