The Department of Environmental Quality recently added a new application to the Michigan Timely Application and Permit Service (MiTAPS), Michigan’s one-stop shop for businesses and industry to search for needed permits and apply on line.
The new application helps facilities fulfill their obligation to notify the DEQ of their regulated waste activities. The application form entitled “Site Identification” (EQP5150) must be submitted for certain facilities under Part 111, Hazardous Waste Management, and Part 121, Liquid Industrial Wastes, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended; Subtitle C of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act; and the rules promulgated thereunder.
MiTAPS is the first of its kind in development of state-of-the-art electronic, on line processing for permitting in the United States. It was developed jointly by the DEQ, Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Department of Information Technology, and enfoTech & Consulting, Inc.
Once the application form EQP5150 is completed and submitted by the applicant via MiTAPS, the DEQ will, if required, issue a unique Site Identification Number for each regulated facility, update the site information on record, and accept the submittal as required notification of specific regulated activities.
