Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester today announced that Automatic Spring Products of Grand Haven has been designated as a Michigan Clean Corporate Citizen in a voluntary program recognizing environmental stewardship.
Automatic Spring Products becomes the 117th facility statewide to earn the designation. The company is a manufacturer of custom-designed compression, extension, and torsion springs; wire forms; flat springs; stampings; washers; and assemblies. They control the entire manufacturing process from engineering concept and prototyping to in-house tooling, manufacturing, heat treating, and finishing.
“This company illustrates environmental stewardship principles in every aspect of their business operations,” said Director Chester. “I congratulate the Automatic Spring Products team, who is striving to create a sustainable neighborhood and ensure a healthy environment.”
When asked why they chose to participate in pollution prevention partnerships Company President, Steve Moreland responded, “We believe in continuous improvement in all that we do, whether it is our quality, delivery, service, safety, or environmental efforts we believe we can always be better tomorrow. Our motivated and creative-minded people continuously generate a multitude of ideas and work hand-in-hand together to get them implemented. For us at Automatic Spring Products, it is all about doing the right thing, even when no one is looking.”
To qualify for a Clean Corporate Citizen designation, candidates must adopt a facility-specific environmental management system, active pollution prevention initiatives, and have a consistent record of compliance with applicable environmental requirements. The program is open to establishments regulated under any of Michigan’s environmental statutes. Designations are valid for one year and must be renewed annually.
