The Department of Environmental Quality’s Office of Criminal Investigations has announced the promotion of Detective Sergeant Tina Straw to the rank of Lieutenant. Tina’s new duties include the supervision of the Eastern Michigan and Special Investigative Units for the Office of Criminal Investigations, and will base her work in DEQ’s new “green” building, the Southeast Michigan Office located in Warren. Prior to this promotion Straw was the OCI’s environmental conservation officer headquartered in the DEQ’s Kalamazoo Office.
“We are extremely pleased to have such a talented individual leading environmental crime and special investigations for the DEQ,” said DEQ Director Steven E. Chester. “Tina brings a wealth of experience to her new position.”
Straw started her law enforcement career as a Michigan State Police Trooper in 1986 and a Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer in 1987. She was promoted to Detective Sergeant as an environmental conservation officer in 1993 and moved to the DEQ at its creation in 1995.
Tina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University. She completed Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Institute training in 2002; graduated from the Eastern Michigan University Police Staff and Command School in 2003; and completed the New Chiefs Taking Charge Program in 2004.
