Workshops to Help Michigan Facilities with Hazardous Chemical Inventory Reporting

Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

December 5, 2005

The Department of Environmental Quality is pleased to announce the 2006 SARA Title III Tier Two Workshops designed to assist hazardous waste operators in planning for emergencies. The workshops will be held in Novi on January 17, Kalamazoo on January 19, Grand Rapids on January 26, and Midland on January 31. The half-day workshops are designed for owners, operators, and environmental and safety personnel of facilities that have hazardous materials on site; however, environmental consultants, Local Emergency Planning Committees, and fire department personnel can also benefit from this workshop and are encouraged to attend.

Attendees will learn about the various reporting requirements that facilities must follow and how to submit their reports. This information can help operators avoid costly penalties while protecting the first responder, the community, and the environment. Participants will receive the “Michigan Facilities’ Guide to SARA Title III, Emergency Planning & Release Reporting.”

The registration fee of $50 includes continental breakfast and workshop materials. Register online at www.michigan.gov/deqworkshops (click on “Upcoming Workshops”). For registration information, contact the Environmental Assistance Center at 1-800-662-9278, or e-mail at deq-ead-env-assist@michigan.gov.
