The Department of Environmental Quality, in cooperation with the Michigan Municipal Bond Authority, has approved a $7,090,000 low interest loan from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) for the city of Adrian. The loan finances improvements to the city’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and the Broad Street Pump Station. These improvements will help to ensure adequate operation of the wastewater system in the city of Adrian and protect the River Raisin for years to come.
“We are pleased to be able to partner with local communities to invest in Michigan’s future,” said DEQ Director Steven E. Chester. “The work being done in Adrian is a commitment to their environment, their citizens, and their success.”
This is the second loan the city of Adrian has received from the CWSRF for improving the WWTP. The first loan was approved by the DEQ on September 5, 2002, for $8,920,000, and together they will improve the capacity and efficiency of the city’s wastewater system, ensuring long term compliance with the facility’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
The low interest rate of the CWSRF loan, currently at 1 5/8 percent, will also save the city substantial debt costs over the next 20 years. To date, the CWSRF has tendered nearly $2.3 billion in assistance to Michigan communities for wastewater infrastructure improvements.
