Granholm Administration Awards Funding for Scrap Tire Cleanups

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm and Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester have today announced that grants totaling $3.9 million have been awarded to 35 applicants. The Scrap Tire Cleanup Program funds are designated for use toward the complete cleanup of these tire sites in order to reduce the potential public health and environmental concerns, such as fire and mosquitoes, associated with scrap tires. This funding will protect the health of these communities; and clean up more than 3.8 million scrap tires from sites across the state.

The grantees will have until August 31, 2006, to complete contract requirements for having their tires removed and processed in accordance with a DEQ-approved tire removal plan.

The following is a list of the approved grantees receiving scrap tire cleanup contracts under the Program:
