Weyerhaeuser Receives the Neighborhood Environmental Partners Program Gold Award

Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

May 17, 2006

At a ceremony held in Grayling today, Department of Environmental Quality Director Steven E. Chester awarded Weyerhaeuser Grayling OSB the Neighborhood Environmental Partners (NEP) Gold Award.

The NEP Gold Awards Program was developed by the DEQ to recognize facilities and their community partners who have worked together to improve the environment locally by implementing ongoing environmental projects.

“This award recognizes Weyerhaeuser’s commitment to Michigan, and to the local community,” said Director Chester. “I am pleased to join with them today as a partner in protecting our environment, and growing Michigan’s economy.”

Director Chester highlighted Weyerhaeuser’s work with its community partners to clean and beautify the community by collecting and disposing of used tires, and for its contributions to a local land conservancy. The Weyerhaeuser Grayling OSB facility provided volunteer and monetary support to make both projects successful.

“It is an honor for Weyerhaeuser to receive this award. This would not have happened without the strong commitment and relationship we have with our Community Partners,” said Ian Faulkner, Unit General Manager for Weyerhaeuser. “We look forward to building this relationship in the future so our children and grandchildren will continue to benefit from the beauty of our environment.”

Weyerhaeuser Grayling OSB is also an active member of the Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Corporate Citizen Program. Weyerhaeuser received their C3 designation on May 18, 2004 and has successfully renewed their designation since then.
