Nearly 1,900 Michigan facilities are required to annually report their emissions of air pollutants to the Department of Environmental Quality. This year, DEQ is offering two different types of courses to help these facilities submit their reports electronically using the Michigan Air Emissions Reporting System (MAERS).
The "Refresher Course" will be held in Lansing on January 9 and is geared to those who are already familiar with completing the MAERS reports and just need an update. This two-hour session will provide a review of the basic MAERS concepts and highlight changes and new features. This class will NOT be held in a computer lab; therefore, attendees are encouraged to bring their own laptop to the class. The registration fee is $50, which includes workshop materials and continental breakfast.
The "Introduction to MAERS" workshops will be held in Gaylord on February 2, Grand Rapids on February 8, Livonia on February 13, and Lansing on February 20. This hands-on training is designed for those who are new to MAERS or those who need more comprehensive training on the concepts and software. The introduction workshops take participants step-by-step through the new MAERS version 2006.0.0 software on computers. Workshop participants will learn MAERS software basics, how to complete the electronic forms and submit their report to DEQ, and how to avoid common mistakes encountered when completing and submitting a MAERS report. The registration fee of $75 includes refreshments and workshop materials.
Workshop attendees for both the "Refresher Course" and "Introduction to MAERS Workshops" will receive the MAERS Workbook and the MAERS version 2006.0.0 software.
