Rumble Trucking and Logistics, Inc., a freight transportation company in Port Sanilac, has become the latest Michigan company to earn Clean Corporate Citizen (C3) status for their administrative office complex in Port Sanilac. This is Michigan's 144th Clean Corporate Citizen, and is Sanilac County's 2nd C3.
"I congratulate the staff at Rumble Trucking for their commitment to protecting Michigan's environment," said DEQ Director Steven E. Chester. "They have demonstrated that Michigan can have both a healthy environment and a healthy economy."
Environmental objectives at the Port Sanilac office complex include active recycling projects; installation of new waste oil burners that provide heat by re-using oil from the truck fleet; and new energy efficient equipment to reduce waste. Additionally, the company has made efforts to reduce paper usage, and has future plans to install a wind turbine to support 80% of current electrical requirements and a corn burner for office and warehousing heat requirements. The company's transportation fleet is also using several bio-based fuel blends.
"We are very excited to be recognized for our short and long term environmental and pollution prevention efforts," said Julie Fagan of Rumble Trucking. "Transportation companies by nature can be a very environmentally unfriendly industry. We have deliberately planned and worked to maximize our efficiencies in both energy usage and waste disposal. We are very proud of our office staff and drivers on the road for their interest and enthusiasm as we continue to implement improvements."
To qualify for a Clean Corporate Citizen designation, candidates must adopt a facility-specific environmental management system and active pollution prevention initiatives, and have a consistent record of compliance with applicable environmental requirements. Clean Corporate Citizens are eligible for certain regulatory benefits under the state's environmental programs, including expedited permit approval. The program is open to establishments regulated under any of Michigan's environmental statutes. Designations must be renewed on a regular basis.
