The Department of Environmental Quality and the Partnership for the Saginaw Bay Watershed will be hosting a presentation on the impacts various sources have on the water quality of Saginaw Bay. The presentation will take place on April 4, at 7 p.m. at the Bay City State Park Visitors Center.
Dr. Carlo De Marchi of the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan will provide information on the Distributed Large Basin Runoff Model for the Saginaw Bay. This model looks at impacts to the water from combined sewer overflows, animal manure, fertilizers, pesticides, soil erosion, and pollutant and sediment transport.
Dr. De Marchi's presentation continues a focus on phosphorus issues and their impacts on Saginaw Bay, a priority issue identified through the Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative.
Details of the Saginaw Bay Coastal Initiative and additional information are available online at http://www.michigan.gov/deq under "Issues to Watch."
