The Department of Environmental Quality has implemented a new expedited application review process for sewerage system projects that will first be piloted for eligible projects located in the counties of Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, and Wayne. Under the new process, the DEQ is providing, for a fee, an expedited application review process for construction permits that will initially be completed within 20 business days of receipt of a complete application. In subsequent years, this will be reduced to 15 business days, and finally to 10 business days. The DEQ began accepting applications under the expedited review process on August 1, 2007.
Eligible projects are limited to one of the following: a conventional gravity sewer extension of 10,000 feet or less of sewer line, a simple pumping station and force main, and a small diameter pressure sewer and grinder pumping station. No fee is charged for the traditional application or permit, and that review process remains unchanged. For more information regarding project eligibility and the expedited application submittal process, please visit the DEQ's Web site at: http://www.michigan.gov/deq/0,1607,7-135-3313_44117-172716--,00.html.
