Workshops to Help Michigan Businesses with Toxic Chemical Release Inventory Reporting

Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

March 17, 2008

The Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be hosting the Toxic Chemical Release Inventory (TRI) Reporting Workshops, to be held on May 1 in Novi.

Facilities in certain industry sectors are required to submit TRI reports that list toxic chemicals used, report releases and waste transfers of the chemicals, as well as waste management activities.

Beginners and those needing a refresher should attend the TRI Novice Reporters Beginners Session. This full-day session is designed for those with little or no knowledge of reporting requirements. It will cover the regulation, eligibility criteria, reporting process, and forms completion in detail. Changes for the 2007 report year will be highlighted, and enforcement activities will be discussed.

Those more experienced with TRI reporting can attend the half-day TRI Advanced Reporters Advanced Session that runs concurrently with the full-day workshop for novices. This session will cover reporting requirements, the reporting process, TRI-MEWEB, and Internet submissions, and changes for the 2007 report year.

Register online for either workshop at www.michigan.gov/deqworkshops (click on "Upcoming DEQ Workshops"). For registration information, contact the Environmental Assistance Center at 1-800-662-9278, or e-mail at deq-ead-env-assist@michigan.gov.
