DEQ Air Quality Monitoring Document Available for Public Comment

Contact:  Robert McCann (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

May 1, 2008

The Department of Environmental Quality has released the annual ambient air quality monitoring Network Review document for public comment. The Network Review is the principle tool used by staff of the DEQ Air Quality Division to plan ambient air quality monitoring activities.

The Network Review is the result of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2006 revisions to the ambient air monitoring rules. It interprets past air monitoring data using federal regulations to determine which air pollutants will be measured at what site locations during the upcoming year and beyond.

The 2009 Network Review document is available on the DEQ Web site at www.michigan.gov/deqair. Public comment will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. EDT on June 2. Feedback received by the DEQ will be reviewed with respect to ambient air monitoring activities to be carried out in 2009.

Comments may be submitted either electronically to heindorfm@michigan.gov, or by regular mail to: Dr. Mary Ann Heindorf, DEQ-Air Quality Division, P.O. Box 30260, Lansing, Michigan 48909.

A copy of the 2009 Network Review document may be inspected free of charge at the DEQ Air Quality Division offices located in Lansing at 525 West Allegan Street and in Detroit at 3058 West Grand Boulevard, Suite 2-300. A paper copy of the 73-page document may be obtained by contacting Craig Fitzner fitznerc@michigan.gov at 517-373-7044. The DEQ is required to charge the standard rate of $0.50 per page to cover reproduction and shipping costs.
