DEQ Offices will be Closed to the Public on February 13th

Contact:  Patricia Spitzley (517) 241-7397
Agency: Environmental Quality

February 10, 2004

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has announced that, with the exception of a few critical positions as authorized by the Office of the State Employer, the DEQ offices and laboratory testing will be closed to the public on Friday, February 13 through Monday, February 16, due to a mandatory furlough day, weekend, and state holiday. Business will resume on Tuesday, February 17. Friday, February 13 is a mandatory furlough day scheduled for employees represented by MPE and UTEA Unions. The DEQ offices will be closed because they will be understaffed and unable to provide adequate service to the public.

All buildings that house DEQ staff will be affected by this closure. Where DEQ staff are housed with other state departments, it is anticipated that this action will have no impact on the other department’s ability to conduct normal business operations.

Editor’s note: DEQ news releases are available on the department’s Internet home page at www.michigan.gov/deq.
