Resource Materials for the Part 201 and Part 213 Programs

Contact: Sara Pearson 517-420-3219 Or Patty Brandt 517-284-5071

The DEQ Remediation and Redevelopment Division is currently in the process of publishing technical resource documents that may be used by parties seeking reference materials when investigating and remediating environmental contamination. This web page provides links to the technical resource materials documents published by the DEQ.

As other operational memoranda technical topics are replaced by resource documents, the links will be provided for the new technical materials and the links for the operational memoranda will be removed.

Select operational memoranda technical topics may also be formatted as a Remediation and Redevelopment Division Policy and Procedure, as appropriate.  At this time, one document, Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Site Classification System, has been published as a policy and procedure.  This document replaces Operational Memorandum No. 3, Part 213 Site Classification.  The link is provided below.

The technical information provided in the documents is applicable to the Parts 201 and 213 programs.

Note that Application of Target Detection Limits and Designated Analytical Methods Resource Materials and the MDEQ Published list of Target Detection Limits Designated Analytical Methods also covers the Part 211, Underground Storage Tank Program, as far as site assessment sampling and analysis.

For additional information please contact the RRD district office responsible for your site.

STD-07:  The changes to Part 213 on May 1, 2012, have made the Storage Tank Division Operational Memorandum STD-7 obsolete.  The management of ‘free product' has been replaced by the management of NAPL (non-aqueous phase liquids).  Corrective action requirements regarding NAPL are described in Part 213, which incorporates the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) Standards E1739, E2081, E2531.  The ASTM E2531-06 is entitled Standard Guide for Development of Conceptual Site Models and Remediation Strategies for Light Nonaqueous-Phase Liquids Released to the Subsurface.  If you have a specific question related to a site, feel free to contact the Remediation and Redevelopment Division's district project manager
