Employment

The process is the same for all classified state positions including part time, full time, and student positions. Applying for a State job has gone “on-line”. Toapply for a job with the Office of Geological Survey or any other State agency go to:

http://www.michigan.gov/mdcs/0,1607,7-147-6876-57453--,00.html

This Michigan Department of Civil Service page gives a choice of viewing positions by county, job type, those only open to State employees, or the entire list. Once you've made you selection, you can sort the information in the table by clicking on the column header. Sorting options include: Job Title, Pay Range, State Agency, City, County, Date Posted,Due Date, Open To.

When you select a job title additional information is displayed:

Deadline for Response, Occupational Group, Job Posting #, Type of Employment, Pay, Union, Brief Job Description, Other Job Information, Minimum Education Required, Minimum Experience Required, Other Job Requirements, and How To Apply.

Jobs are usually posted for seven days, so check back often. Check out a couple of possibilities (even remote possibilities) so you are familiar with what information you will need to supply in order to apply. Apply for as many positions as you want to. Interviewing is an acquired skill. You might consider applying for an ‘optional’ position to get experience interviewing.

Prior to hire, an individual must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.

If you accept a position with the State of Michigan, you will be paid by means of an electronic funds transfer into an account at your financial institution, unless to do so would cause an undue hardship.

In order to avoid conflict of interest, all employees of the State of Michigan must obtain approval from their employer before taking on a second job.

The State of Michigan is an Equal Opportunity Employer
