Digital Permit Welll Files

Digital Oil and Gas Permit Well Files

Oil and Gas Permit Well Files (PWF) are the documents that are generated over the course of the life of a well - from application to plugging.  The content of the file depends on the history and activities at the site.  These are the files that were on microfilm.  Currently the files for permits 1 to 42,999 are available.

To get a set of digital PWF files, send an external USB 2.0 hard disk with at least 40 GB of available space and the requisite cables.  When it is received a set of PWF will be copied onto the hard drive and return it.

The Permit Well Files distributed prior to May 19, 2008 have some "problems."  Due to the number and size of the revised files (17.1 GB of disk space for 12,081 files) FTP is not workable in this case.

Return shipping (UPS / FedEx / DHL etc.) is to be provided by the party requesting the files.  There are no other costs or fees associated with acquiring these files.

The USB hard disk drive should be sent to:
     Steven E. Wilson
     Office of Geological Survey
     525 West Allegan

Updates will be available via FTP (File Transfer Protocol).  For more information about accessing the DEQ FTP site, or to add your name to the email update notification list, please contact  Steve Wilson .  For background on using FTP, please see our ‘ How to Use FTP ' web page.

The digital PWF are provided as multiple page TIF files.  In order to view and print them you might need some additional software.  There are sites on the internet from which you can download software.  Some of the software is free or evaluated before you buy it.

Two sources for software that you might consider are:
   1)
http://www.cnet.com/ and or
   2)
http://downloads.zdnet.com/
