The Michigan Geological Survey, currently in the Office of Geological Survey, established in 1837 (the same year as the state itself), is the oldest Michigan State agency,
The mission of the Survey is to encourage conservation and protect natural resource values in developing the geological resources of the state, including fossil fuels, minerals and groundwater, and to identify, develop, and disseminate geological information for the benefit of Michigan citizens.
Visitors are Welcome
The Office of Geological Survey, Lansing Office, is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (visitor access to equipment or files for viewing or making copies is from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm), Monday through Friday except State Holidays. The Lansing Office is located in the Constitution Hall Building, 525 W. Allegan Street, 1st floor, South Tower, two blocks west of the State Capitol, in downtown Lansing.
Directions: From I-496, exit at M.L.K. Blvd. Go north following the "Capitol Loop." Turn right onto Allegan Street. Constitution Hall is on the southeast corner of Allegan and Pine. Metered parking is on Allegan, Washtenaw or Pine streets, in the circle drive (up to 60 minutes) and a fee parking lot just east of the building south of Allegan Street.
